At Rommé, we work with both natural and lab-grown stones, carefully selected for their beauty, colour and individuality. The origin of each stone is always clearly stated in the product details, so you know exactly what you are choosing.

Natural Diamond

Natural diamonds were formed deep within the earth over billions of years under extraordinary heat and pressure. Each one is entirely individual, with its own combination of colour, clarity and naturally occurring characteristics.

Their rarity, history and enduring brilliance have made natural diamonds some of the world’s most treasured stones.

Lab-Grown Diamond

Lab-grown diamonds are real diamonds created above ground using advanced technology that recreates the conditions in which diamonds naturally form.

There are two primary methods:

HPHT, or High Pressure High Temperature, uses intense heat and pressure to grow a diamond from a tiny diamond seed.

CVD, or Chemical Vapour Deposition, places a diamond seed inside a specialised chamber where carbon gradually forms around it, layer by layer.

The finished stone has the same chemical composition, crystal structure and optical properties as a natural diamond. It is not a simulant or an imitation. The principal difference is its origin: one is formed beneath the earth, while the other is grown in a controlled laboratory environment.

Lab-grown diamonds offer the brilliance and durability of a diamond, often at a more accessible price.

How Lab-Grown Gemstones Are Made

Coloured gemstones can also be created in a laboratory. Scientists reproduce the heat, pressure and mineral-rich conditions required for crystals to grow, using a small seed or carefully selected raw materials.

Depending on the gemstone, methods may include flame fusion, hydrothermal growth or flux growth. Each process can take anywhere from several weeks to many months.

Lab-grown gemstones share the essential chemical, physical and optical properties of their natural counterparts. They are genuine gemstones, not coloured glass or imitation stones. Because their growing environment is carefully controlled, they often have exceptional clarity and beautifully consistent colour.

Emerald

Emeralds are known for their rich green colour, ranging from fresh and luminous to deep and velvety. They belong to the beryl family and are traditionally associated with renewal, love and new beginnings.

Natural emeralds often contain delicate internal markings known as inclusions. These are part of the stone’s character and are sometimes affectionately referred to as its jardin, the French word for garden.

Emeralds are slightly more delicate than diamonds and sapphires, so they deserve thoughtful wear and gentle care.

Sapphire

Although best known for their iconic blue, sapphires can be found in an extraordinary spectrum of colours, including pink, yellow, green, teal, lilac and white.

Sapphires belong to the corundum family and are prized for their vivid colour and excellent durability. This makes them a beautiful choice for rings and other pieces designed to be worn often.

No two natural sapphires are exactly alike. Differences in tone, saturation and colour zoning give each stone its own personality.

Ruby

Rubies are the red variety of corundum, the same mineral family as sapphires. Their colour can range from bright berry red to deep crimson, sometimes with soft pink or purple undertones.

Celebrated for centuries as symbols of passion and vitality, rubies combine expressive colour with exceptional strength. Their natural variations make every stone feel personal and distinctive.

Aquamarine

Aquamarines belong to the same gemstone family as emeralds, but their mood is entirely different. Their colour moves between the palest watery blue and more saturated blue-green tones, bringing a fresh, luminous quality to jewellery.

Named after the Latin words for seawater, aquamarines are loved for their clarity, softness of colour and quietly captivating glow.

Natural or Lab-Grown?

The choice is personal.

Natural gemstones hold the romance of rarity and a story shaped by the earth over immense periods of time. Lab-grown gemstones offer the same essential gemstone properties in a stone created using modern technology, usually with greater clarity and at a more accessible price.

Neither choice is simply “better.” They offer different kinds of beauty, value and meaning. We believe you should be able to choose the stone that feels right for you.

Precious Metals, Always

Every Rommé piece is made in precious metal. We use only solid gold and sterling silver.

Our solid-gold jewellery is crafted in 9k, 14k or 18k gold, depending on the design. Solid gold does not wear away like gold plating, making it a lasting choice for jewellery intended to be worn and kept.

9k gold contains 37.5% pure gold and is valued for its strength and practicality.

14k gold contains 58.5% pure gold, offering a beautiful balance of rich colour, durability and everyday wearability.

18k gold contains 75% pure gold, giving it a deeper, more luxurious gold tone.

Our silver pieces are made from sterling silver, an alloy containing 92.5% pure silver. The addition of other metals gives it the strength needed for fine jewellery while preserving silver’s cool, luminous finish.

No gold vermeil. No gold-filled metals. No disposable plating presented as fine jewellery. Just precious materials chosen to be worn now and kept for everything after.
